Lear Siegler ADM-5

Post by Ben_Aveline »

Hi everyone,
I have a Lear Siegler ADM-5 terminal that's working fine with TeraTerm (I can send characters to the terminal via the pc and the other way around).
But sadly, I can't manage to make it work with my Altair clone.
I've setup the Altair port 1 to SIO 9600 8E1 and confirmed I was able to boot basic from that setting on TeraTerm
And same thing for the Lear Siegler
(here is a picture of the settings switches of an ADM-5, not mine)
My settings (on is down, off is up, as shown on the 25th page of the manual):
1 off (reserved - didn't touch that one)
2 on (AUNL EN)
3 on (50HZ - I'm in Europe)
4 on (RS232)
5 off (FDX)
6 off (BIT 8=1)
7 on (ENPR)
8 on (1 STOP)
9 off (EVEN)
10 off (8BIT)

The Altair connects to my computer through a null modem cable, and the terminal connects to my computer with a straight cable. So I used a null modem cable to link them together. Unfortunately I can't manage to display anything on the real terminal. I tried Basic from drive 0 with A15-A12 to 0010 after examining FF00. It works if plugged to my computer, not with the terminal. I tried the SIO Echo program, same thing...
Any help would be appreciated here as I'm feeling I'm missing something obvious.
Thanks a lot
Ben

Your Altair Clone is wired as DCE, the terminal os wired as DTE. Remove the null modem between them.

I love those Lear Sieglers! I spent hundreds of hours on a 3A. Those were my favorites of the 1970s! I also liked the Data General 6052 and 6053, but you saw those on minis more than micros. For me, the Lear Siegler was THE terminal for a micro!
