I carefully read the alignment procedure in the Shugart SA-800 manual. I set my Hantek DSO5102P (hacked to use 200Mhz) to all the voltages and divisions in the manual and connected the external trigger.
I made sure the probes were connected to the proper test points.
I inserted the Alignment disk in the drive and closed the door. Using AFEXER, I stepped to track 38 and looked for the pattern shown in the manual.
I got something but it sure didn't look like the manual! Back to checking all the oscilloscope settings. They all looked good.
Can anyone spot my "fatal" error? It took me a while but I figured it out. I FORGOT TO LOAD THE HEAD AFTER STEPPING TO TRACK 38!!!
Once I loaded the head, a good pattern showed up and I adjusted the radial alignment so the two lobes were equal in height. Simple!
A dumb beginner's mistake which I won't repeat! I just figured y'all could use a laugh even if it's at my expense.

Can't I just pretend it's already aligned? :DAltairClone wrote:Good job! Index alignment is next...
