Zenith Data Systems 8" Floppy

I picked this 8" floppy up at a local sale today for cheap. Came in original box and packaging, appears to have been carefully put away many years ago. Has a 50 pin cable in very good condition. Overally this thing looks nearly mint. Missing power cable and manual.

Does anyone know anything about this model? A quick search online yielded nothing. Any thoughts if it would be compatible with the 88-2SIOJP controller?

Hoping it will be compliment the 8800C I have in work...

Thanks,

Curt.

Good find! You’ll have to open it up and see what’s inside. If it’s just a power supply and cabling to the drive, then it should be easy to interface to. You’ll need a disk controller like the Altair FDC+ or a Tarbell 1011 to use it. The 88-2SIOJP is not a disk controller - it’s a serial interface board.

That is sooo awesome!

Not just because it's original vintage gear, but also because it's from one of the "big names" in the American electronics industry of days gone by.

I totally love that!

It is exactly what I was hoping for, a Shugart 860 and a power supply. 50 pin connector goes straight out the back panel. Going to power up the power supply and check voltages, then do a complete power up.

A Shugart drive in a Zenith cabinet. Just too cool!
