Paper Tape Winders
I would like more info on electric winders?
Saw this one the other day - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4Z0MRYN7bo
The winder is at 8:37 in this video.

Re: Paper Tape Winders
Here's my homebrew electric winder. I was wondering if others have made an electric winder and how you arranged the drive.
At present this is direct drive straight on the motor spindle. It's got just enough guts to not risk shredding the tape.
Motor Specs:-
Rated voltage 6V DC
Operating range 5V DC 12V DC max.
No load speed 2700rpm
Rated load 11.6 g.cm
Rated load speed 2180rpm
Operated via a simple speed controller (knob on the side)
Supply voltage is just 5v and this gives all the speed you need when turned to max!!!!
I should have timed a rewind of "Lunar Lander" tape.

Wow, these are great! Are you machining some of your own parts for the disks?

Thanks, yep they are turned on a small lathe. The blue plastic disk is about as large as I can swing. The holes are cut just using a regular hole saw in a pillar drill.

Re: Paper Tape Winders
Trial run with 8k Basic V4.0
Mk.II (Hand Winder) = 33 seconds
Mk. III (DC powered) = 12.5 seconds
Mk. IV (Mains powered) = 23 seconds
I have yet to adjust the speed controller on the Mains version. With more speed comes more torque!!!! With more torque comes more FEAR!!!!!!!!!!!
As I believe Tim "The Toolman" Taylor would say - "MORE POWER!!!"
Anyone else have a timed rewind for 8k Basic V4.0?
