altair clone pulled out of storage, usb device not recognized

Post by quincy451 »

I put my clone in storage for years while I cared for my mother...now I pulled it back out...seems just as good as when I put it in storage...
I found the two cables I ordered with it to connect it up to a pc...I cable that to my windows 10 machine, and I check drivers and usb device is unrecognized...I do not recall if I had to load a driver before or not...I have not turned the clone on yet...
but I would think the usb would be loading the driver successfully. I do remember a hunt and pick picking a serial port that would actually communicate with the clone, but haven't gotten that far yet.

Any ideas?

Thank you

I assume you’re trying to get a USB to serial adapter to work with your PC? This will have nothing to do with the Altair Clone - you can use any USB to serial adapter that will work with your PC, or a PC with a real serial port, or a video terminal or Teletype.

On your PC, look in the device manager under the “Ports COM and LPTl category. Expand that heading and see what devices are present.mis one of the, the USB ago serial adapter? Does it have an error flag icon showing?
