Using Old Tandy Printers

Postby Tech » January 14th, 2022, 11:22 pm

I understand that Altair Clone does not have a parallel port, only serials. Many old Tandy printers have DIN 4 serial ports, like the one in attachment. Can Altair print on such printers, using an adopted cable of course?

This should be pretty easy to make work. Connect pins 3, 4, and 7 of the bottom serial port on the Altair to DIN pins 4, 2, 3 respectively. In the serial port menu on the Clone, make sure the serial port is configured as a 2SIO port and then choose the “CTS, RTS Both Used” handshake option.
