I have an opportunity to pick up a 35 ASR. Wondering if anyone here has an opinion on that model (vs. the 33 I guess), has one of their own, etc.

Thanks!

I’ve never owned a 35, but I’ve used one. In general, it’s built like a tank. If you can move it to work on it, it should be a great machine for you.

The 33 was kept in adjustment by bending thin metal parts. You can imagine how reliable that was. The 35 has steel and cast iron parts that don't bend.
Of course it weighs a ton but once adjusted, it stays that way much longer than the 33. If you can find one in working condition or know a good, local Teletype technician, get it!

I did wind up getting the 35. I think it is fundamentally sound but it needs to be rejuvenated. The punch unit is a printing punch, kinda cool.

The greenkeys listserv is a great resource. That's how I found it. I also found out there's a guy not too far from me that has a boatload of 35 parts for free, should I need any.

So yeah, this was something I couldn't pass up - even though it's going to take some work to get it fully functioning.

I still want a 33 ASR too.
