Cassette interface and supplied cable....

Postby waltermixxx » July 12th, 2015, 3:26 pm

i received my cassette interface on wednesday... :) thanks again Mike! :)

Just wondering about the supplied cable (1/8th jack with ring, tip, sleeve that comes with the cassette interface, i noticed that when it's plugged into the cassette interface card, the contacts in the jack are on Tip and Ring, and don't reach sleeve... I think that is ok if you are plugging into a mono source like an old cassette recorder, because sleeve would reach that portion of the jack....

my question is more with plugging it in to ipod or pc to playback wave files...
there would be no connection to ground, it would be connected to left and right, and not ground.

i hope i make sense, should i have received a mono cable with the interface ?
i can post a picture if this is unclear?

The jack used is a stereo jack, as is the cable. The contacts you see that touch the tip and ring pick up left and right channels on the plug. The sleeve is a common ground for L and R and is picked up by the connector's barrel.

The cassette interface is mono, like the orginal ACR. This puts audio between tip and sleeve electrically. The ring is no-connect. In a stereo recording system, you'll only see audio on one channel.

Well I was able to load basic from cassette interface using the supplied cable, and my laptop playing the 8kbasic.wav file. :)
got it on the second try. ( wave player volume initially too low...) :)

so everything worked great... :) I'm waiting for an actual analog cassette player/recorder i purchased to arrive and will try with that. :)

Cheers. :)
